SPYL condemns education officials for refusing to accommodate delegates to Swapo-Party Pioneers’ Movement congress

ONANDJABA: The Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) has condemned senior education officials for refusing to accommodate delegates to the Swapo-Party Pioneers’ Movement (NPPM) congress in the Onandjaba Secondary School hostel.

The SPPM held its first elective congress at the Onandjaba settlement of the Okalongo Constituency in the Omusati Region from Friday to Sunday.

The congress took place in the hall of the Roman Catholic Mission Centre of Onandjaba.

SPYL Secretary Elijah Ngurare charged that education officials refused the SPPM congress delegates accommodation in the said school at the last minute because it was a political event.

The refusal, he said, was communicated to the organisers of the congress after they already paid about N.dollars 20 000 for such accommodation, and after delegates already arrived at Onandjaba on Thursday.

They were only allowed to use the hostel following the involvement of the Omusati regional governor, Sophia Shaningwa; Education Minister Dr David Namwandi and Attorney-General Dr Albert Kawana.

Meanwhile, the congress elected Iyallo Shiimi from the Oshana Region and Peinge Shilamba from the Oshikoto Region as the SPPM secretary and deputy secretary in an independent Namibia, respectively.
