Colombo: Sri Lanka imported vehicles worth more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars during the first nine months of 2025, state media reported Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, vehicle imports in September alone amounted to 286 million dollars. The surge in vehicle imports has contributed to a widening of the merchandise account deficit in September, the report said.

Sri Lanka resumed vehicle imports for both personal and commercial use in 2025, following strict restrictions imposed in 2020.
