Stars Hold Tigers to a Draw After Great Comeback

Tigers’ title charge was halted when United Stars produced a great comeback to hold them to a 2-2 draw at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.

Treasure Kauapirura put Tigers ahead with a cracking shot from the edge of the box on 29m and went 2-0 up when substitute Petrus Naftalie controlled a cross by Protash Kabwe on 68m to fire home.

Stars however didn’t give up and were rewarded for their fighting spirit with two goals by in the final 20 minutes. First Vitapi Ngaruka headed home a free kick by Alfeus Ngwezi on 71m, and then, with four minutes remaining, Ngwezi scored from close range when he cut into the box.

Tigers now still lead the log on 25 points, but second-placed African Stars re now just two points behind with a match in hand.

United Stars meanwhile move up to eighth position on 13 points.

In another match at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium Blue Boys were rather unlucky to lose 1-0 to Tura Magic.

Tura Magic dominated the first half and hit the post three times but they could not find a way past Blue Boys’ resolute defence.

Blue Boys had seemed to do enough for a point when a cruel blow on 78m put paid to their chances. A breakdown in communication saw goalie Gunther Spath and defender Levy Muhuura colliding just inside the box, while the ball rolled into an empty net, coming off Muhuurua for an own goal.

Spath who injured his head in the collision had to leave the field, while Blue Boys could not respond as Tura Magic held on to a 1-0 victory.

The victory puts Tura Magic in sixth position on 15 points, while Blue Boys are 10th on 12 points.

In Walvis Bay, Ramblers picked up an important away win when they bet Blue Waters 2-0. Midfielder Lucky Kooper scored both goals midway through the second half.

The victory puts Ramblers in seventh position on 14 points while Blue Waters are ninth on 12 points.
