Stefanus wins Moses //Garoeb constituency by-election

Swapo Party Candidate, Ndengu Stefanus, emerged victorious with 2 970 votes in the Moses //Garoeb Constituency by-elections held on Friday.

According to the official results announcement on Saturday by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s Chief Electoral and Referanda Officer, Theo Mujoro, 4 822 votes were cast out of a pool of 42 135 registered voters, which represents an 11.5 per cent voter turnout.

Mujoro said 23 ballots were rejected.

He noted that Independent Patriots for Change Candidate, Moses Mwandingi, received 1 270 votes, while Namibia Economic Freedom Fighter (NEFF)’s Shinime Nakale received 267 votes.

Meanwhile, independent candidates Moses Hengobe and Ndalifilwa Hashoongo received 243 and 72 votes respectively.

“The ECN extends its gratitude to all the election officials, party agents, the Namibian Police Force, and the media for overseeing the conduct of a transparent and credible electoral process, as well as the maintenance of law and order. Equally, the ECN would like to thank all the voters that turned up at the various polling stations,” Mujoro said.

The by-election was the death of former councillor, Aili Venonya, in October 2022.
