The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has announced that candidates who improved their NSSCO level marks through part-time tuition centres qualify to enter the Advance Subsidiary level for the first time on a full-time basis, will be allowed to do so.

Education Executive Director, Sanet Steenkamp, in a media statement issued on Thursday stated that schools should ensure that candidates are able to attend all of the subjects for which they qualify and choose to do at AS level and are not restricted due to clashes in timetabling.

“Having considered the financial difficulties experienced nationwide as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she noted.

Steenkamp said that in collaboration with NAMCOL, and with the goal of allowing candidates to continue their education, the ministry has agreed to pay a portion of the NAMCOL registration fee, examination registration fee, and 50 per cent of the NAMCOL subject tuition fee up to a maximum of four subjects.

“This is a one-time intervention for candidates who were registered full-time for NSSCO in 2021,” she said.

She also stated that, in support of this intervention, NAMCOL has extended its registration period by two weeks to accommodate candidates who did not register during the initial registration period, with the extended period to now run from Monday, 14 March 2022 to Thursday, 24 March 2022 and that 89 enrolment points have been established to avoid a situation in which students do not receive study material due to a lack of enrolment.

“Because education is a collective responsibility, parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that candidates are fully engaged in the learning process. Furthermore, candidates must recommit to taking advantage of this second opportunity,” Steenkamp underlined.
