Suicides dominate weekend crime report

A 67-year-old man from Ehafo village in the Oshikoto Region allegedly committed suicide on Friday at his homestead by hanging himself with a rope.

A weekend crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Sunday said the man, identified as Josef David, was discovered hanging by one his children about 07h40.

The statement said before allegedly committing suicide, the deceased was sick and saw a doctor on 04 July 2022, however he was scheduled to see visit the hospital again on Thursday, which he refused.

“The deceased left a suicide note and no foul play is suspected. His next of kin have been informed of his death,” it said.

Similarly, a 40-year-old Angolan man died after he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in his sleeping room on Friday at Okaku village in Oshana Region.

According to the report, the man’s lifeless body was discovered at about 13:50 by his housemates after they did not see the whole morning

It noted that the deceased was a cattle herder and his next of kin are not yet informed as no one knows his family. His body was transported to Oshakati police mortuary.

In a separate but similar incident, a 21-year-old male from Okahumba village in Otjozondjupa Region died after he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire on Saturday.

The report said the deceased, identified as Musunga Uakahuruaa, who was mentally challenged, threatened to commit suicide before his lifeless body was discovered by a passerby at about 18h00.

“His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue,” said the police report.

Meanwhile, the lifeless body of a 42-year-old man from Tseiblaagte in Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region was discovered on Saturday at about 07h00.

The report indicated that the deceased, Ludwig Swartbooi, was found with blood coming out of his mouth and nose by his housemate, with no apparent physical injuries on the body and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of the death.

His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
