The suspect in the case in which a 31-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at Rundu on Monday, has been arrested.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa the police arrested him at Kayengona village some 30 kilometres from Rundu on Wednesday following a tip-off from members of the public.

“Members of the public recognised him as the police circulated pictures of him immediately after the murder of the deceased was announced through the media,” Kanyetu said.

The deceased, who was identified as Chikalu Augustinus Andeline, was found in a pool of blood at 08h00 on Tuesday in a room she shared with her boyfriend.

It is alleged that the victim and her boyfriend were going through challenges in their relationship and were in the process of separating.

The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
