Suspect in Okandjengedi murder arrested

A 31-year-old man, who allegedly killed his 30-year-old girlfriend at Okandjengedi location in Oshakati on Saturday, was arrested in the Omusati Region's Etayi Constituency on Sunday night.

Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Public Relations Unit in the Oshana Region confirmed the arrest to Nampa on Monday.

The suspect was a trial awaiting suspect at the time he committed the offense, and he a day before the killing escaped from the Oshakati state hospital where she was admitted under Police guard.

The deceased is identified as Lucina Isabella Quimbra from Oshakati East. She was found dead on top of the bed in the room of a friend at the said location on Saturday night, following reports that the two had a quarrel and fight from one of the bars there.

Police have it the deceased was visiting her friend at Okandjengedi since the past two days.

It is believed she was beaten with an unknown object. The deceased has two visible open wounds on the left side of her face and another one in the head. She also has a broken right arm, Aiyambo explained.

The identity of the suspect is withheld on the grounds that he is yet to appear in court.
