Swakopmund man in court for alleged rape biological daughter

A 49 year-old man on Monday appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrates Court for allegedly raping his daughter on several accounts.

Tobias Haitota who reportedly started having sexual relations with his daughter from 2017 to April 2019 at their home in Swakopmund, was arrested on Friday, after the case was reported in Oshakati, where the daughter went to visit her mom for holidays.

State Prosecutor Johannes Shangadhi strongly opposed the granting of bail, due to the seriousness of the case and the fact that investigations were still in their infancy stages.

We also fear that the accused might interfere with investigations, seeing as the victim is his daughter, Shangadhi told the court.

He added that it would also not be in the in the interest of justice and the public.

The case has however been remanded to 28 October 2019 for a formal bail application.

According to close sources, the incidence would occur while Haitota's younger kids were sent to the shops or just out of the house.

The victim then confided in her mother, who is still married to the accused, who noticed that the victim was not her normal self.

The victim's mother then reported the case.

The accused was represented by private lawyer Juane van Aardt.

The case was presided by Magistrate Conchita Olivier.
