Swakopmund woman allegedly hangs herself in marital home

A 30 year old woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the home she shared with her husband here on Sunday.

According to a police report issued by Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Monday, the woman reportedly hung herself with a black electric cable from a towel rail in the toilet at their residence in Mahetago.

It is alleged that the woman and her husband had a disagreement, after which she told him she was moving out and wanted to take along a bucket, which the husband refused to give her.

She allegedly then took a kitchen knife with the aim to stab the husband but he overpowered her, took the knife away and he went to sit outside.

After half an hour the husband allegedly went back to the room but he did not find the deceased in the room as she had locked herself in the toilet.

According to the police, the husband went to sleep but woke up at around 18h30 and realised the deceased was still in the toilet.

After calling her several times with no response, the husband the proceeded to call the deceased's sister and informed her about what was happening.

The deceased was then discovered at around 19h00 by the husband and her sister, after they broke down the door to the toilet.

She has been identified as Victoria Hedelina Agustus.

No suicide note found and the next of kin were informed.

No foul play has been suspected.

The body was taken to Walvis Bay Police Mortuary for post mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Police investigations are continuing.
