The Swapo Party has retained the Okaku Constituency with its candidate David Fillipus winning 3 195 of the votes cast in the regional council by-elections held in the Oshana Region on Friday.

This was announced in a media statement from the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Saturday.

The by-elections were necessitated after the death of Hannu Gerson Kapenda in December 2022, who was the councillor for Okaku Constituency on a Swapo ticket.

The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) candidate Sakaria Jakob obtained 852 votes, whereas Tomas Nambambi of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) got 294 votes.

The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM)’s Jason Haufiku received 122 votes.

Twenty-two ballots were rejected.
