The decentralisation cannot be overemphasised as it is a vital tool for development and service delivery: Derek Klazen

Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Derek Klazen yesterday said decentralisation cannot be overemphasised as it is a vital tool for development and service delivery.

In a speech read on his behalf at the end of the two-day Decentralisation Consultative Forum organised by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development in the capital, Klazen said the urgency of decentralisation was confirmed during deliberations at the meeting.

The meeting was aimed at empowering sub-national government by transferring certain functions, decision-making powers and related resources from central government to sub-national government level.

Klazen said Namibia has chosen decentralisation as a vehicle to realise the future needs in terms of development and service delivery.

The deputy minister added that both the central government, ministries and regional councils need to hold hands through the decentralisation journey.
