Bilateral relations between Namibia and Tanzania are excellent, but more needs to be done in the area of trade and investment, the Executive Director in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Penda Naanda has said.

‘We should aim to reverse the status quo from now on,’ Naanda said while opening the third session of the Namibia-Tanzania Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) here on Wednesday.

The executive director said the discussions will be geared toward strengthening bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on socio-economic issues.

He further said the JCC should also focus on deriving benefits from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

At the same event, Tanzania’s Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Fatma Rajab said the objective of the meeting is to take a step toward the implementation of the second session of the JCC held in Tanzania in 2016.

The third session of the JCC ends on Friday.
