Thirteen people aged between three and 57 years sustained serious to slight injuries

Thirteen people aged between three and 57 years sustained serious to slight injuries on Friday night after a 65-seater passenger bus they were travelling in collided with a truck outside Okahandja.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha yesterday told Nampa that the collision occurred on the road between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo Friday about 200.

Mbeha said the bus with 59 occupants including its driver was travelling from Windhoek to Oshakati, while the truck was headed towards the direction of Okahandja at the time of impact.

It is alleged the truck moved into the wrong lane while the bus was near, and this forced the bus driver to swerve off the road to avoid a head on collision. However, the truck hit it on the right side injuring 13 people in the bus, Mbeha said.

Out of the 13 people, three sustained serious injuries and all the injured were taken to the Okahandja State Hospital for medical attention.
