Three arrested for Mandrax possession denied bail at Keetmanshoop

The three people who were arrested here on Saturday and charged in dealing in drugs were denied bail in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The accused persons, Andrew Bloedooght, 53, Katrina Bloedooght, 56, and Eben Pienaar, 30, made their first court appearance before magistrate Olivia van der Colff, who denied them bail because police investigations are still at a sensitive stage and because it is not in the interest of the administration of justice for bail to be granted.

However the magistrate informed the accused persons of their rights to bring forth formal bail applications if they wish to be released on bail.

Van der Colff then postponed their case to 28 October 2019 for further police investigations and for the accused to acquire legal aid.

During the court hearing yesterday, all the accused informed the court that they wish to acquire legal representation through the Ministry of Justice's legal aid department.
