Three people die in accident on Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld road

Three people aged 10, 47, and 49 years died instantly Tuesday afternoon when a pickup vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road, hit a bridge and rolled on the Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld road.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas told Nampa at the accident scene that the deceased includes a man who was the driver, woman and a boy who were both passengers.

A total of five people including the 47-year-old driver were in the vehicle which was travelling from the direction of Otjiwarongo towards Kalkfeld at the time of accident.

and #8232;The accident occurred at approximately 13h30 some 32 kilometres southwest of Otjiwarongo.

Andreas said the pickup vehicle was towing a trailer at the time it veered off the road to the right lane, hitting a bridge with force and overturned.

The vehicle was torn into two pieces before killing the three people on the spot, she said.

Two other occupants in the vehicle - a woman aged 35, and a 27-year-old man sustained serious body injuries and were taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
