Three Police Officers Arrested Over Spitzkoppe Assault

Spitzkoppe: The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region has confirmed the arrest of three police officers in connection with the alleged brutal assault of a 44-year-old man at Spitzkoppe several weeks ago. Erongo Police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, on Wednesday confirmed that the officers were taken into custody following investigations into the incident.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the three are accused of assaulting Melvin Areseb after responding to a domestic dispute in Spitzkoppe on 22 August. It is alleged that the officers beat Areseb and continued to assault him while transporting him to Usakos. He was later dropped off along the B1 road without being charged.



Areseb sustained severe injuries, including internal bleeding and a burst appendix, and was transferred from Usakos State Hospital to Windhoek for further treatment. He is currently using a stoma bag as part of his recovery. The officers are expected to make their first court appearance in the Usakos Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
