Toivo United and Young Star crowned Dr BS Haufiku Tournament champs

Toivo United Football Club from Omhedi village in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday won the soccer championship of the 2019 Dr BS Haufiku Annual Tournament held at Onheleiwa village in Omusati Region at the weekend.

The club last year lost in the quarter finals, stated its manager, ToivoNghesheya, shortly after the awarding of the prizes.

It won the tournament football competition after defeated Okalongo United 2-1 in the final match played Saturday afternoon.

As the champions, Toivo United scooped the tournament's top award of a floating trophy, gold medals and N.dollars 5 000, while Okalongo United, as the runners-up, took home silver medals and N.dollars 2 500.

Oshakati-based DT MET FC, in the third position, walked away with bronze medals and N.dollars 1 500.

Mathew Mwaanyekange from Okalongo United was crowned as player of the tournament and Toivo United's ShangelaoNaunyango is the top goal scorer.

The tournament's netball top prize of N.dollars 3 300, floating trophy and gold medals went to the Oshikuku-based Young Star that defeated Team Cobra 24-21 in the final.

Young Star won the netball competition for the third consecutive year. Team Cobra, as the runners-up in the netball category, received silver medals and N.dollars 1 700, while in the third position are the Seven Strong Waves that got bronze medals and N.dollars 1 000.

RaunaHakwenye from Young Star and Aila Andreas from Team Cobra are the netball best shooter and best player of the tournament, respectively.

Former Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Bernard Haufiku, who hails from the area, sponsored the tournament for the 9th year in collaboration with businesses such Rani Group, ETN, B1 and the Ondangwa Private Hospital to the tune of N.dollars 15 000.
