Tombstones removed from graves at Oshakati

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region are investigating the damage to property case after yet unknown suspects allegedly removed tombstones from graves at the Oshakati graveyard over the weekend.

The graveyard is situated in the Oshakati West, and is referred to as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) cemetery.

Speaking to Nampa on Monday, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Public Relations Unit of NamPol in the region said nobody is arrested in connection with the incident.

However, he pointed out that a charge of malicious damage to property has been registered at the Oshakati NamPol station by some relatives of the deceased whose tombstone structure are removed.

Some of the removed structure were found hidden underground some 100-metres from the graveyard, while trails of a vehicle, which the culprits allegedly have used to transport the removed tombstones, have been detected in the nearby vicinity.

The tombstones of about 10 graves have been removed, and the community believes they are stolen for the purpose of selling them to the funeral undertakers.
