Top Namibian horses shine in Gobabis

Racehorses Starlile, Freedom Fighter, Epic, Tomas Jefferson, CheckMate, Mambas Pride, Von Trotha, King Kotini, Leeuloop, Omake, Grossvenor House, Starboy and Rockley Beach won some main races at the Hauro-Aminuis Spring Handicap competition at Gobabis Turf on Saturday.

About 75 horses from different racing clubs took part in the competition and strived for N.dollars120 000 spent in 20 sprints event held in Omaheke Region for the first time.

Starlile from Okahandja Racing (OR) won the 1800 meters (m) and 1 000m in Thoroughbred open and A-division respectively while Freedom Fighter of Uaraa Tjiho took the Nambred A-division category.

In 1 800m, Starlile was followed by Tomas Jefferson from Junius Racing (JR) in second place whereas Black Market from Riverside Racing came third.

Among others sprints, Leeuloop from OR won the 2 000m in the Nambred D-division category, while Little Epic from Mouton Racing won the 1 600m in the Thoroughbred graduation category.

Also, OR's Mambas Pride won 1 000m in Nambred maiden category followed by Sofia Town from Hauro Racing while Corridor 13 Racing Club's Symbol of Freedom came third.

In other races, Grossvenor House from Kaondeka Racing (KR) emerged victor in the 1000m in Thoroughbred grouping whereas Check Mate from Kahiha family won the 1 400m in Nambred beginner's category.

A new entrant Tomas Jefferson of JR took the 1 000m in the Thoroughbred D-division category, followed by What Else from MR and Canigao from KR in second and third places respectively.

Seasonal horse Von Trotha of Edison Kandjii scooped the first place in the Nambred A-division 1 000m, followed by Eagle from Professor Supporters Club and Freedom Fighter in second and third place respectively.

However, the result of the 2200m of the Thoroughbred horses is still pending after both Rockley Beach from OR and Bring Me More from KR had a photo finish.

The next horse racing event is slated for next Saturday in Okahandja.
