Oshakati: The eighth edition of the Top Score Oshiwana seven-a-side tournament has officially kicked off at the Oshakati Independence Stadium in the Oshana region on Thursday. The tournament, expected to conclude on Sunday, has attracted a total of 101 teams from the northern part of the country, comprising 77 soccer, 11 Legends, and 13 volleyball teams.
According to Namibia Press Agency, during the launch, Top Score Brand Manager Diego Talaya revealed that an amount of N.dollars 300,000 was invested in hosting this year’s tournament. Talaya emphasized that Oshiwana is not solely about soccer and winning trophies or lifting medals; it is about coming together as a community to create memories. He highlighted that every pass made on the pitch, every goal scored, and every whistle blown represents more than sport. It signifies belonging, hope, and the power of unity.
Organiser of the tournament, Peuyelenga Da Silva, expressed that sports have an incredible power to bring people together, transcending age, background, and differences. He noted that whether participants are on the soccer field or the volleyball court, they are united by a shared passion for the game and a desire to create a stronger, more connected community.
The winning teams in the Women and Legends Soccer categories will receive N.dollars 5000, a trophy, and gold medals, while the second runner-up will receive N.dollars 3,000 and silver medals, and N.dollars 2000 and bronze medals will be awarded for third place. The champions in volleyball will receive N.dollars 7000, a trophy, and gold medals, with the second and third runners-up receiving N.dollars 5000 with silver medals and N.dollars 3500 with bronze medals, respectively.
The youth soccer category boasts the largest rewards of N.dollars 10,000, a trophy, gold medals, and a Top Score kit. The second runner-up will walk away with N.dollars 8000, silver medals, and a Top Score kit, while the team in third place will receive N.dollars 5000 and bronze medals.
