Touch and Go consolidate top spot

Touch and Go Football Club maintained its top spot on the Maize Triangle Soccer (MTS) League following a 3-1 victory over fifth aced Kaltes Waser over the weekend in Otavi.

The MTS League which was established in March is played in Tsumeb, Otavi and Grootfontein saw two matches between Chief Santos versus Liberators and Benfica and Gerros Uri-Khob.

This was due to the funeral of the late legendary Gregor Corry Uri-Khob who used to be a former player of Santos.

This weekend's matches were the second matches of the second leg of this season for the 12 team log.

The league is sponsored by Dundee Precious Metals Community Trust from Tsumeb to a tune of N.dollars 287 000.00.

They also received N.dollars 20 000 from Namdia, and N.dollars 15 000 from NamPower, which is used to buy the kits and equipment for the teams, renting of stadiums and transport and referees payments.

Speaking to Nampa the Jefta Gaoab the spokesperson of the league said they started the league because of the inactivity of the first and second division football in that area.

The idea was just to keep the boys fit while we await the leagues to start. The Namibia Football Association is aware of this league, but we are not an affiliate. We have their blessings and we play under their rules and regulation, he explained.

He added that they rotate the matches around the three towns, and the league uses NFA affiliated match officials from within those three towns.

We do not allow Namibia Premier League affiliated players in our league. The first and second division leagues did not play last season hence why we decided to start this league, so we do not allow them to play with us, Gaoab said.
