Two tourists were allegedly robbed of cash and other valuable items on the B8 road between Otavi and the Kombat settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region on Monday.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday said the incident occurred around 11h30, approximately four kilometres east of Otavi.

The tourists are a couple from the Netherlands aged 52 and 50.

“They were on bicycles, riding behind each other from the direction of Otavi towards Kombat, when an unknown man allegedly stopped them at knifepoint and demanded money from them,” said Mbeha.

The suspect then allegedly robbed them of N.dollars 800, a wallet, an iPhone and two power banks, bringing the total value of the stolen goods to N.dollars 11 000, Mbeha stated.

The incident occurred around 11h30.

The couple opened a case of robbery at the Otavi Police Station on the same day. By Tuesday, no arrest had been made yet and the stolen goods had not yet been recovered, according to Mbeha.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
