Truck teams dominate KASU’s Nefie Kandjii netball category

The Windhoek-based Truck team won the netball category of the eighth edition of the Katutura Sports Union's (KASU) Nefie Kandjii Cup Khomasdal Stadium on Saturday.

The knockout tournament which attracted 24 football and 16 netball teams saw Truck Team A and B playing the finals of the netball category.

Truck Team A defeated Epukiro-based Otjimati 18 -16 in the first semi-final match while Truck Team B overcame Windhoek-based Tom and Jerry 20-16 in the second semi-final.

Truck Team A then won the KASU's Nefie Kandjii Cup after they defeated Truck Team B 21-8 in the final to walk away with N. dollars 3 000, a trophy plus 12 gold medals.

Runners-up Truck Team B pocketed N. dollars 2 000 plus 12 silver medals whereas Otjimati and Tom and Jerry pocketed N. dollars 1 000 each as losing semi-finalists.

The organiser of the tournament, Kuveri Tjonga told Nampa on Sunday that the football finals will be played on the 20 October 2019 at the Khomasdal Stadium.

Despite the shortage of sports facility in the capital, the football series is delayed by the non-compliance of teams with the competition rules, Tjonga said.

He added that man's Truck Team fielded eight premier league players against Dynamos from Ovihitua and that forced the association to replay the match.

Truck Team won the replay by defeating Dynamos 1-0 but went to loose in the quarter-finals.

Okarui Swallows booked their place in the final after defeated their Epukiro-based counterpart Pamue Eleven in the first semi-final courtesy of Gibbs Maharero solidary goal.

Tom and Jerry will play the second semi-final with Otjimati on Sunday at 10h00 while the final is scheduled to kick-off at 14h00.
