Kavango west: Police in the Kavango West Region have arrested two individuals in an alleged child marriage case at Ncaute village in the Ncuncuni Constituency.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga stated that a 26-year-old cattle herder allegedly approached the 14-year-old girl’s mother between May and August 2025, asking to marry her daughter through traditional customs.

The suspect reportedly promised to support the minor’s education, which led to the mother agreeing to the arrangement and allowing her daughter to live with the suspect.

Muronga said the girl, a Grade 5 learner at Ncaute Primary School, was living with the suspect when authorities intervened. The two suspects – the cattle herder, who is an Angolan national, and the girl’s 41-year-old mother, who is charged as an accomplice – are scheduled to appear before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Police investigations continue.
