Otjiwarongo: The Otjiwarongo State Hospital witnessed the births of two Christmas babies this year, with one baby girl and one baby boy born on Christmas Day.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Martha Katuta, a registered nurse for the maternity ward at the State hospital, shared in an interview that her team of nurses assisted two women in delivering their healthy babies on this special day. The first baby, a girl, was delivered at 04:32 on Thursday morning by a 25-year-old woman. Katuta noted that the newborn weighed 3.12 kilograms, which is above the standard newborn weight of approximately 2.5 kilograms.
The second baby, a boy, arrived at 16:06 on Thursday afternoon via a caesarean section procedure, weighing about 2.67 kilograms. Katuta confirmed that both mothers and their newborns are in good health.
Emily Kuiiri, the mother of the first baby girl, expressed her excitement and feeling of being blessed to have given birth on Christmas Day, a day she mentioned is significant in her community as it is believed to be the birth date of Jesus Christ. Anuska Steenkamp, the 27-year-old mother of the baby boy, described the birth of her son as the best Christmas gift of 2025.
The Namibia Press Agency also reported that Mediclinic Otjiwarongo, a private hospital in the area, did not record any births on Christmas this year.
