Two die on Otjinene-Omitara gravel road

A three-year-old boy and an unidentified woman died after the car they were travelling in overturned on the Otjinene-Omitara road in the Omaheke Region on Friday afternoon.

A Namibian Police Force (NamPol) crime report on Sunday said the incident occurred on Friday around 15h30 on the Otjinene-Omitara gravel road.

It is alleged that the driver of the Toyota pick-up was driving from Otijnene to Windhoek through the gravel road with 11 other occupants when the right rear tyre of the vehicle burst, causing the driver to lose control over the vehicle.

“The vehicle rolled several times before it landed on the driver’s side. It is further alleged that all passengers were thrown out of the vehicle during the process except for the driver who was in his safety belt,” it added.

The deceased was identified as Moses Nderura and his next of in are aware of his death.

The woman succumbed to her injuries before reaching the Gobabis State Hospital and all the other injured passengers were transported to the same hospital for medical attention.

Police at Omitara are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Meanwhile, police at Ogongo in the Omusati Region are investigating a case of reckless and or negligent driving and culpable homicide after two men allegedly died when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Okeeke village on the Oshakati-Outapi main road.

The incident happened on Saturday around 10h40 at the village and the deceased person was identified as 51-year-old, Johannes Shikongo who was the driver of the vehicle while the 57-year-old man is not yet identified.

“It is alleged that the driver of the Nissan pick-up was driving from the western to eastern direction when he lost control of the motor vehicle and it overturned. Two other passengers sustained minor injuries,” said the report.

Meanwhile, at Omufituwanakashole village in the Ohangwena Region, a woman died after she was allegedly hit by a vehicle at the village on Friday afternoon.

It is alleged that an unlicensed driver of a Toyota sedan lost control of the vehicle and hit the woman identified as Jacobine Haimbodi who was walking next to the road.

The incident happened around 19h00, and the woman was taken to Engela Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries later that day. The 38-year-old driver was arrested.

Haimbondi’s next of kin are informed of her death.

Police at Ongenga are investigating a case of culpable homicide, reckless and or negligent driving and driving without a driving license.
