At least two prisoners were killed after a jailbreak in Cameroon’s North region, officials and police said Friday.

In a statement, local penitentiary authorities said the two were part of nine inmates who were forcefully set free after attacking guards at the Tchollire Main Prison in the region Wednesday.

Seven inmates succeeded in escaping but two were shot dead as they attempted to escape.

It is unclear if prison guards were injured during the attack.
