Windhoek: Two men were arrested in Windhoek’s Otjomuise residential area after they were allegedly found in possession of cannabis skunk valued at over N.dollars 9 million. Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed the arrests on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the arrests involved a 46-year-old Namibian man who was found with 10 boxes of cannabis skunk and a 44-year-old truck driver who allegedly delivered the boxes from South Africa. The operation took place at about 05h55 at a residence in Akureryri Street, Otjomuise, following an intelligence-led operation by the Khomas Region drug squad.
Both suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. NamPol noted that the bust follows the release of the August monthly statistics on drug-related arrests and confiscations. Despite ongoing police efforts and public awareness campaigns, drug trafficking and consumption remain a concern.
“We commend the members of the public who continue to share valuable information leading to successful apprehensions. The police will not relent but will continue to bring all those involved in drug dealing and use to book,” Shikwambi stated.
