Undefeated Namibia leads table at M1 Nations Cup

The national senior netball team Desert Jewels continued with their impressive performance on Tuesday at the M1 Nations Cup in Singapore when they took on Cook Islands.

The Desert Jewels who started the competition with a draw against the host nation on Sunday and then defeated Ireland on Monday beat Cook Islands 61-47 on day three of the championship.

Namibia who has been shooting on all cylinders since the competition started took the lead in the first quarter of the match against at the OCBC Arena at Singapore Sports Hub.

The first quarter ended 16-13 in favour of the Namibian team.

In the second quarter Namibia added 15 more points to their score while their opponents scored 12 points for a 31-25 score at the end of that quarter.

The third quarter saw Namibia still scoring 15 more points and their opponents 13 points to end it with Namibia still in the lead at 46-38.

The last quarter of the match saw the Namibian team restricting their opponents to just nine points while the once again banged in 15 points to win their second successive game at the competition with a 61-47 score line.

With the win the Namibian team are now top of the six teams log standing on five points while Cook Islands and Botswana are second and third respectively and levelled on four points.

The host nation Singapore are fourth on the log standing with three points while Ireland are fifth on two points and Papua New Guinea are bottom of the log standing with zero points.

Speaking after the match team coach Julene Meyer, said they knew from the start they will have a tough game against cooks Island.

We absorbed the pressure against a team that had good defence and fast attackers, but as the game played we continued gaining points on the score board. Our shooter did well and the players executed the instructions very well, she said.

She added that they are now looking forward to their next match against Papa New Guinea on Wednesday.
