United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili on Monday paid a courtesy visit to President Hage Geingob ahead of the regional tourism and Brand Africa conference on Tuesday.

The conference, taking place from 15 to 16 June 2021 under the theme ‘Strengthening Brand Africa for the Swift Recovery of the Tourism Sector’, is aimed at enhancing the image of Africa as a tourist destination and improve the marketing skills of micro and small and medium tourism enterprises in African countries, with a particular focus on Namibia as a pilot study.

Pololikashvili said the conference is an important and historical step for Africa, particularly Namibia, during the trying times to revive the tourism sector from the COVID-19 pandemic strike.

“The conference aims to position Africa as a safe destination not only for tourists, but for international investors. Namibia has an opportunity for international investors and the conference is a good platform,” he noted.

Pololikashvili also thanked Geingob for his leadership and for consenting to the conference during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Geingob welcomed Pololikashvili, saying Namibians look forward to the outcome of the conference for the country and Africa at large.

The conference will be attended by delegates from the regional and international tourism sector.
