Venaani congratulates Katenda

President of the Popular Democratic Movement, Mchenry Venaani has wished Reverend Lukas Kaluwapa Katenda God's blessings on his appointment and consecration as the new Bishop of the Reformed Evangelical Anglican Church of Namibia (REACH-Namibia).

Katenda's consecration took place on Sunday in Ondangwa. Venaani said Katenda is a true servant of the people, takes over leadership of REACH-Namibia during a very difficult time when the country is troubled with so many evils.

Reverend Katenda is not just an experienced pastor who has served his people for over 15 years at the Anglican Diocese of Namibia, but a patriotic Namibian who treats everyone with dignity and love, cited Venaani in a press statement issued on Tuesday.

The leader of the official opposition party went on to offer his encouragement and support to Katenda's leadership during the challenging times.

In these dynamics, Venaani said, Katenda will see the potential for a transformative gospel of God.

I know that with Reverend Katenda's skills in community-building and collaboration, Namibians will have much to be offered to the church and society as a whole, Venaani stated.

He then encouraged Katenda to continue embracing everyone as he always does.

Katenda takes over from the church's first Bishop Peter Kalangula, who has also been the leader of the defunct Ovambo Administration and died in 2008.

Katenda united members of Kalangula's Church of England in Namibia with his breakaway from the Anglican Diocese of Namibia and eventually formed up the REACH-Namibia flock.

Presiding Bishop of REACH-South Africa Rt. Rev Glenn Lyons consecrated Katenda during ceremony attended also by a parliamentarian Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, Ohangwena governor Usko Nghaamwa and hundreds of members of REACH-Namibia and from other siste churches.
