Warriors’ Taking Professional Boxing to Outjo

The town of Outjo will host the Warriors’ Promotions’ professional boxing bonanza on 13 September 2014.

This will be the first of its kind boxing event staged in that town. Namibian and Zambian boxers will square off at the Etosha Poort Stadium.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, Warriors’ boxer and co-promoter, Joseph ‘Smokey’ Hilongwa said the idea of taking the event to Outjo was to create some excitement in the town and to inspire young residents to take up boxing.

“For two weeks I was in Outjo checking out the venue for the fights, and I learned that most of the youth in that town have nothing to do but just drink alcohol. Hosting the boxing bonanza will give the young people an opportunity to witness professional boxers fighting in the ring, and maybe they might be inspired to take up boxing as a hobby,” he said.

Hilongwa added that his academy is hoping to open up a boxing training centre there with the help of the Outjo Town Council. Meanwhile, Lucas “The Demolisher” Ndafoluma, who will fight in the main bout against Sherif Kasongo of Zambia, urged Outjo residents to come witness him fight.

“People of Outjo have never seen me fight, and this is their opportunity. I will only fight Kasongo once, and if you miss this fight you might never see me in the ring doing what I do best, because we might not go back to Outjo again,” boasted Ndafoluma. The two will battle it out in the junior middleweight category.

The supporting bouts on the night will be between Amos “Heavy Duty” Enkala and Edmund Dominikus of Zambia in the featherweight category and Timoteus “Remember” Shuulula against Bernard Mwango, also from Zambia, in the bantamweight category.

Jonas Matheus will make his pro-debut against Sebby Sheuyange in the super bantamweight category. Tickets are N$100 for VIP seats, N$50 regular seats, and N$20 for children. – Nampa
