African Stars Football Club’s head coach, Marvin Mbakera, said his team has worked hard this year and his players should not be judged by dropping points over the weekend in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership.

Mbakera was speaking after his team played to a goalless stalemate with bottom-of-the-log Citizen FC at UNAM Stadium in the capital on Sunday.

African Stars is the only club to have not lost a game this season, winning 15 games and drawing four from the 19 games played thus far. They are on top of the log with 49 points, 12 points clear of second on the log Blue Waters, who have earned 37 points thus far.

Since the resumption of the 2022/23 Debmarine Namibia Premiership, the log leaders have struggled to find the back of the net as they did in the first leg, with most of their goals in the last three games coming from set pieces and not from open play.

In an interview with Nampa, after their match on Sunday, Mbakera said they made several changes to their starting 11 because they want to make sure that every player in the squad gets match fitness is not far from the regulars.

“We had two or three clear chances where we could have scored but things didn’t happen. We had two points from the weekend and internationally that is all you need to win the league but today was not our day as we tried our level best but we didn’t find the back of the net,” he said.

He added that all they need now as a team is a bit of patience and with patience, they will start scoring goals soon, as they did in the first leg of the premiership.

“We have worked hard throughout the season. We can now not discredit these boys for all that they did because of this weekend’s results. We are going to move on as there are still many games to be played and our goal of winning the league remains,” Mbakera said.
