Members of the Namibian Police Force ( NamPol) at Otjiwarongo are tracing four suspected poachers who allegedly shot and killed a white rhino bull on a private game lodge near Waterberg on Monday evening.

NamPol’s Community Affairs Liaison Officer in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Olivia Haihambo, in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday said the suspects also removed horns of the animal without a permit.

Commercial farmers near the Waterberg Plateau have also joined the police in their efforts by following footprints of the suspects, said Haihambo.

“The alleged poaching took place on Monday evening, and we suspect the four poachers might have entered the game lodge illegally in between Saturday morning and Monday afternoon,” said Haihambo

A case of hunting specially protected game has been opened against them at Otjiwarongo Police Station.

The white rhino bull is valued at N.dollars 420 000, Haihambo added.

No arrest has been made in connection with the matter and police investigations continue.
