Windhoek High School Old Boys Cricket Club 1 (WHSOBCC1) beat a spirited Centre for Cricket Development 1 (CCD1) by 162 runs in a tense 50 over Namibia Cricket Premier League match at the Windhoek High School on Saturday.

WHSOLB1 won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a huge scoreline of 365 for 6 (365/6) in their 50 overs with National Team layer Zhane Green top-scoring with 129 off 119 balls.

Opener Green hit 12 fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 108.40 to lead his side to victory before being bowled and caught by Mauritius Ngupita.

He was ably helped by fellow national team batsman and opener Craig Williams who smashed 83 of 86 balls (six/boundaries four sixes) at a strike of 96.51.

Only two of WHSOB1 batters failed to reach double figures while Ngupita, who was an unused player at last year’s world cup was the star bowler for the visitors with an impressive two wickets in 10 while giving away 47 runs at an economic rate of 4.70.

In response, CCD1 had a mountain to climb as they looked to score 366 runs, but failed to do so as national team fast left-arm bowler Ruben Trumpelmann and Tangeni Lungameni each took two wickets to restrict the visitors to just 202 runs.

National team batsman Pikkie Helao Ya France scored a quickfire 40 off 37 balls from the number five batting position but failed to inspire his teammate.

Another national team player Nicol Loftie Eaton scored 33 runs off 45 balls, but that was not enough to help his team achieve victory.

The victory by WHSOB1 sees them claim pole position on the log with 18 points from four wins, one loss and a draw from their six matches, with two more to go before the conclusion of the domestic season.

CCD1 remains in the third position on the log with 12 points from three wins and three losses after six matches, behind second-placed Wanderers who have played a game less with four victories and one draw.

In the fourth position is Trusco United 1 who have one victory from five games and have amassed four points, while MR24/7 Welwitschia anchors the log with 0 points from their four matches.

Next round fixtures are scheduled for 05 and 06 February.
