WMC hosts successful Drags and National Circuit

The Windhoek Motor Club (WMC) hosted its second leg of the Drags and the National Circuit which saw over 20 drivers competing amongst each other at the cathedral of Namibian Motor Sports.

The two-day event, which started on Friday and ended on Saturday evening, was held at the Tony Rust Race Track on the outskirts of Windhoek.

On Friday, the circuit racing saw Matthew Strydom winning the Clubman’s Class E category, while Wayne Rust won the Clubman’s Class X category and the Clubman’s Class F category went to Ewald Bisschoff, while Strydom finished second in that class.

The Supercars category was won by Mark Sternagel, while the Clubman’s Class B was won by Zachary Martin.

Allan Martin, Richard Slamet and Zachary Martin finished first, second and third respectively in the Clubman’s Class A category, while the Clubman’s Class C saw Michel Rust winning that class.

On Saturday, the Ovals’ 8 Valves categories were won by Eugen Swart, with Willy van Wyk and Philip Stomen finishing second and third respectively.

Martin Vaden Heever won the Quads category, while Jackie van Zyl finished second and William Wright third.

The V8 category was won by Michael Bennke, while Gerhardus Swart finished second and Jaco Coetzer third.

In an interview with Nampa on Sunday, one of the event organisers Rianca Fourie said the event was fun and they are looking forward to hosting other events still left on their calendar for this year.

“The ovals saw teams from across the country and different clubs partaking in the WMC championships which were nice and made the event fun,” she said.
