Woman allegedly buries new-born baby alive

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region on Monday arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly killing her new-born baby boy.

Warrant Officer Anna Kunga of the NamPol's Public Relations Unit in the region confirmed the arrest to Nampa on Tuesday, saying the suspect was as yet to appear in the Okahao Magistrate's Court.

According to Kunga, the incident occurred at around 01h00 at Ongongolwa village in the Omusati Region's Tsandi Constituency on Saturday.

It is alleged that the suspect, who is working as a domestic worker, gave birth to a baby boy, tightly wrapped the bay in a plastic bag, went in the fence yard and buried the baby, said Kunga.

She added, the dogs exhumed the body and it was discovered on Monday at around 07h00 at Ligogani, a village situated some 1.2km away from the burial site.

It is also alleged the woman, who is originally from Ontanda village in the same constituency, buried the baby alive.

Police investigation into the matter continues, but the identity of the suspect is withheld until her court appearance.
