Young Bafana and Power Puffs win Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency charity tournament

Young Bafana Football Club and Power Puffs Netball Club were on Tuesday crowned winners of the inaugural Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency charity football and netball tournament.

The tournament, which took place at Aroab, started on Saturday and saw 27 football teams and nine netball teams competing for top honours.

Young Bafana from Koës beat Transky Football Club from Keetmanshoop 4-0 in the final of the tournament to walk away with N.dollars 20 000, a floating trophy and 25 gold medals. Transky received N.dollars 12 000 and 25 silver medals for their efforts.

Touch and Go from Bethanie and Amagluglu from Karasburg both walked away with N.dollars 4 000 as losing semi-finalists.

In the netball category, which was played in a round robin format, Power Puffs of Karasburg walked away with N.dollars 5 000 and a floating trophy, while the Bethanie united Netball Club walked away with N.dollars 3 000. Keetmanshoop United and Zamalek from Aroab walked away with N.dollars 1 500 and N.dollars 1 000 for finishing in third and fourth place respectively.

Ahead of the tournament last week, Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency Councillor Gertjie Witbooi, who is one of the tournament’s organisers, told Nampa the tournament serves as a fundraising activity to buy mattresses and blankets for the vulnerable and pensioners in the constituency.

On Tuesday the councillor said they raised N.dollars 7 500 that will be used to buy mattresses and blankets.
