Young man drowns after allegedly killing girlfriend

A 26-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by drowning in an earth dam at Ongha village in the Ohangwena Region after allegedly strangling his girlfriend to death on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, which happened at the village, to Nampa on Wednesday, Namibian Police Force coordinator for crime investigations in the region, Deputy Commissioner Zacharias Amakali said police divers removed the body of the deceased from the dam on Wednesday.

The deceased persons have been identified as Shikondobolo Faustinus Shikondobolo and 24-year-old Lavinia Duudeni Nekundi, both from Ohadiwa yaKapombo village also in the Ongha area.

It is alleged that Shikondobolo strangled Nekundi to death in his house at Ongha No. 1 informal settlement after which he went to jump into the dam near the settlement and drowned, Amakali said.

Nekundi was a student at the International University of Management (IUM) at Ongwediva.

The next of kin of the two deceased are informed about their deaths, while police further probe the matter.
