Zimbabwean hawkers appear in magistrate’s court

Four Zimbabwean nationals who were arrested by members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Walvis Bay for illegally selling goods, appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The suspects, all male, are in Namibia on visitors’ visas.

They were apprehended on 21 September 2015 in the Kuisebmond residential area after the police learned that their visas do not allow them to conduct business in Namibia.

Given Tarugarira, 19; Gankayi Shamada, 33; Onismos Chikwave, 31; and Owen Kudakwishi Munatsi, 21 sold goods such as hats, T-shirts, shoes, socks and steering wheel covers.

The accused persons conducted their own defence and pleaded guilty.

They further admitted that they are aware that conducting business while being in a foreign country strictly as a visitor is illegal.
