Omuthiya: A delegation from the Office of the Attorney General hosted a stakeholder engagement in Omuthiya town in the Oshikoto Region on Friday. Speaking at the NANTU hall, Attorney General Festus Mbandeka emphasized the purpose of the engagement was to improve coordination and cooperation between regional and local leaders and his office.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Mbandeka clarified the constitutional mandate of the Attorney General, highlighting the importance of stakeholders understanding when to seek legal advice or representation from his office. The engagements, planned for all 14 regions, stress the significance of legal compliance and its implications.
Mbandeka noted that understanding applicable laws and regulations enhances respect for the rule of law, promotes good governance, and reduces the risk of legal challenges against the government, which can have significant financial repercussions. The initiative aims to encourage ongoing dialogue to support regional and local government institutions in executing their mandates effectively.
The stakeholder engagement will also extend to State-owned enterprises and traditional authorities nationwide. Mbandeka emphasized the need for feedback to improve efficiency and provide prompt services, underscoring the necessity for compliance with legislation and the importance of seeking agreement clearances due to their legal and financial consequences.
Oshikoto Region Governor, Sacky Kathindi, expressed that the meeting serves as a meaningful platform for sharing experiences, addressing challenges, and exploring strategies to enhance legal compliance and service delivery in their jurisdictions. He affirmed the commitment to collaborate with the Attorney General’s office to advance good governance and improve administrative and legal processes.
