Commercial Cold Storage (CCS) and Erongo Marine Enterprises’ permanent employees, through the Erongo Harambee Workers Trust, now own shareholding in CCS and Arechanab Fishing and Development Company.

The employees own 31 per cent shareholding in CCS and 15 per cent in Arechanab Fishing and Development Company, a right holding company in which Erongo Marine Enterprises is a shareholder.

This was announced by Chairperson of the Trust, Charlett Kambongarera, at Walvis Bay on Tuesday.

“As from 2022, permanent Namibian CCS employees with service of 12 months or longer will also be able to share in the profits of the company gained through your hard work. Dividends will be declared on an equal basis annually,” Kambongarera noted.

Founder of Erongo Marine Harambee Employees Trust and Managing Director of Erongo Marine Entreprises Martha Uumati said this signifies a step in the right direction towards the private sector supporting the Government’s call for equitable wealth distribution.

“This initiative is also testimony to Oceana Group’s commitment to a performance-driven culture that positively impacts lives with the correct reward, designed to aid in the creation of an ownership mentality across the Group,” Uumati noted.

She added that the initiative is Oceana Group companies’ strategy to fully align with Vision 2030, the National Development Plans and The Harambee Prosperity Plan II to ensure that all our workers are included in the benefits gained through company operations.

The employees of CCS have expressed gratitude and welcomed this initiative, noting that this will assist so many in bettering their lives.

“I think with hard work and perseverance, this initiative will definitely help us sustain our families and achieve goals which we otherwise could not afford with a salary alone,” they said.

Erongo Marine Harambee Workers Trust was set up in 2017 exclusively for Namibian workers permanently employed by Erongo Marine Enterprises, most of whom are employed as crew onboard the company’s two trawler vessels.

To-date, more than N. dollars 9 million have been paid through the Trust to all Erongo Marine permanent employees on an equal basis since 2018.
