COVID-19: Namibia records 100 new cases, one death

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 100 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and one death, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 472.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, said the gender distribution was 61 females and 39 males, ranging between one year and 91 years old.

The Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of cases at 38, followed by Omusati with 27 cases, Khomas with seven, Oshana and Kunene with six each, Oshikoto five and the Erongo and Otjozondjupa regions with four cases each. The Omaheke, ||Kharas and Kavango West regions recorded one case each.

Of the confirmed cases, 57 were learners, five teachers and one, a healthcare worker. Shangula further revealed that none of the confirmed cases were vaccinated.

Namibia on Monday had 1 308 active cases, of which 99 were hospitalised and 19 were in intensive care units.

A further 119 new recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 122 208.

A cumulative 245 578 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, while 156 833 had been fully vaccinated.
