COVID-19: Namibia records 113 new cases

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 113 new COVID-19 cases.

No deaths were recorded.

In the daily update issued Tuesday, Shangula said the new cases formed part of 1 616 tested samples and represented a 7.0 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 64 males and 49 females between 24 days and 93 years old.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of cases at 62, followed by Erongo with 30, Otjozondjupa eight, ||Kharas five, Kavango East five, while Omaheke, Oshana and Omusati recorded one case each.

The confirmed cases included nine healthcare workers, four learners from different schools and four students.

Eight cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 20 cases are fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Monday had 925 active cases of which 28 were hospitalised and three admitted to intensive care units. The cases in ICU were not vaccinated.

No new recoveries were recorded, keeping total recoveries at 125 540.

The minister also reported that by 06 December this year, 378 182 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine of which 88 466 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, including 19 children aged 12-17 years. A total 230 614 people had received two doses, thus 319 080 people had completed their vaccination.

Total deaths stood at 3 574.
