COVID-19: Namibia records 18 new cases and two deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 18 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and two deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 3 266.

In an update issued Tuesday, Shangula said the new cases represented a 1.5 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 11 females and seven males between the ages of two and 24 years.

The Omusati and Ohangwena regions recorded the highest number of cases at seven each, followed by Oshana with two, while Otjozondjupa and Omaheke recorded one case each.

Among the confirmed cases are 11 learners from different schools, one of whom had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while the rest of the cases are unvaccinated.

Namibia on Monday had 734 active cases, of which 17 were hospitalised and one person was in an intensive care unit.

Sixty-six new recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 124 654.

A cumulative 331 648 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, of which 55 852 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, translating into 208 692 people having been fully vaccinated.
