COVID-19: Namibia records 326 new cases, 43 deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Wednesday reported 326 new COVID-19 positive cases and 43 deaths bringing the country’s death toll to 2 970.

Shangula in the daily COVID-19 update issued on Thursday noted that the deaths were reported from 14 districts namely Oshakati, Swakopmund, Rehoboth, Tsandi, Otjiwarongo, Windhoek, Onandjokwe, Okahao, Outapi, Walvis Bay, Grootfontein, Opuwo, Outjo and Rundu.

He said all the deaths occurred in July, six of them occurred at home, while three were reported as dead on arrival at heath facilities. None of the deaths reported were vaccinated.

Shangula said the new positive cases have a gender distribution of 181 females and 145 males ranging from an eight-day-old baby to a 101-year-old person.

Khomas Region recorded the highest number of infections at 58 followed by Oshana with 55 cases and Otjozondjupa with 47 cases.

||Kharas recorded 37 cases, Zambezi 25, Erongo and Omusati each recorded 23 cases, Kunene 22, Omaheke 11, Hardap 10, Oshikoto six, Ohangwena five and Kavango East recorded four cases.

Among the confirmed cases are 29 learners, three teachers and 13 healthcare workers.

The minister reported 481 new recoveries leaving the total number of active cases at 20 503 of which 460 people are hospitalised, with 80 admitted into intensive care.

As of Wednesday, a cumulative 156 942 first and 47 161 second vaccine doses have been administered in the country.
