COVID-19: Namibia records 38 new cases, and zero death

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 38 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and zero deaths.

Shangula, in a daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, said the new cases were part of 1 421 samples tested, representing a 2.7 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 20 females and 18 males between the ages of seven months and 99 years.

Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of cases at 17, followed by Omusati with 10, Khomas three, Kunene three, Erongo two, Oshana two and Omaheke with one case.

Of the confirmed cases, 15 are learners from different schools, one student and one is a teacher. Only two cases are fully vaccinated, while the rest are all unvaccinated.

Namibia on Monday had 1 048 active cases, of which 66 were hospitalised and eight in intensive care units.

A further 13 recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 580.

A cumulative 285 993 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, while 183 977 had been fully vaccinated.
