COVID-19: Namibia records 58 new cases, one death

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Thursday recorded 58 new COVID-19 cases and one death, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 524.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Friday, said the new cases represented a 3.9 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 35 females and 23 males between the ages of six month and 89 years.

Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of cases at 18, followed by Khomas with 11, Oshana nine, Hardap four, Omusati three, Otjozondjupa three, Kunene three, Zambezi three, Oshikoto two, ||Kharas one and Omaheke also recording one case.

Of the confirmed cases, 17 are learners from different schools, five healthcare workers and two teachers. Three cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and three are fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Thursday had 1 109 active cases of which 71 were hospitalised and 11 in intensive care units.

A further 120 recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 402.

A cumulative 281 402 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Thursday, while 180 863 had been fully vaccinated.
