COVID-19: Namibia records five new cases

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded five new COVID-19 cases, while no new deaths were recorded, keeping lives lost at 3 563.

In an update issued Monday, Shangula said the new cases represented a 0.4 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of two males and three females between the ages of six and 60 years.

The Otjozondjupa Region recorded two cases while Erongo, Khomas and Omusati recorded one case each.

The cases include four learners from different schools and one teacher, none of whom were vaccinated.

Namibia on Sunday had 177 active cases, of which 11 people were hospitalised.

Fifty-six new recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 125 262.

A cumulative 339 297 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Sunday, of which 60 827 had received the single dose Janssen & Johnson vaccine; a total 213 165 people had thus completed their vaccination, the minister said.
